“Objective” Journalism?

Something to consider, but not a reality in multimedia. There’s too many important messages that need a voice. Instead, a more acceptable term would be, “advocacy journalism.”

Working on a recent piece timed with September – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, my colleague and I wanted to highlight three important pieces of information (1) The inspiration of personal, community contribution. (2) The power of imagination and positive thinking in healing. (3) The severe lack of funding and need for donations to pediatric cancer research.

According to the National Cancer Institute, cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children one to 14 years old. On average, one to two children develop the disease each year for every 10,000 children in the United States. In the 2007, approximately 10,400 children living in the U.S., under age 15 were diagnosed with cancer and about 1,545 children will die from the disease.
